You do not have to conform

Questions I got asked the other day after I had been doing DIY in the garden and popped to a family party.

1) "Why aren't you wearing make up?"

2) "Oh, you're still living with your mum?"

3) "Oh you're really thirty two? Oh my where did the time go? Where's the man? Why aren't you getting on with it?

1) I'm not wearing make up because I spent the day doing DIY, I'm tired and I don't see the problem with not wearing any. I wear it when I like to wear it and want to, not because I feel I should.

2) Yes I'm living with my mum. Not ideal but I am single and saving money. Happy with my decisions thanks.

3) Where is the man?

Why do people feel the need to ask these questions? Does it make them feel better about themselves in some way?

^^oh noes! I just spent half a day at work with no make up on, someone quick, come and get me before I scare everyone away!^^

Let's not even go back to the time a "friend" told me I needed to get some fake tan on my legs before wearing a short skirt again. Fuckwit.

I am enjoying sharing my feelings with the world right now. I hope my thoughts are well received!

Things that have made me happy recently

From a really grumpy post, to one full of happy things. This is pretty out of date and out life of order, Jamaica 2 should have been first, but when I go through my phone, this is what made me happy and it hasn't been on the blog yet!

1) This food from Bang Bang Vietnamese Canteen near Warren St. The food was amazing. The service wasn't great, I wasn't drinking alcohol that night but I didn't even get offered a soft drink by the waiters or waitresses once in the whole evening. They also left us for over an hour at the end without offering anyone coffee or dessert.

The pork belly steamed bun made it so worth it though, I would go back for the food. It was a gorgeous evening catching up with friends who I haven't seen for a while.

2) I built a soft box for taking photos of things I sell online, and potentially the blog. It was really fun and cost me around £5.00 all in, I love making things and I'm really excited to test it out.

If anyone wants to see the whole thing, just let me know!

3) Discovering a new viewpoint over london near my house. You can see everything from harrow on the hill, to the BT Tower and the shard.

It's not actually officially public land for a couple of months and I want it to be my secret for a little while, some horrible young lads with crowbars have already discovered it as their hangout spot, I had to leave fairly promptly the other night when they brought it out. Why on earth would you want a crowbar in a field at a beautiful viewpoint like this?

The sunset that evening was just incredible too. People following my instagram will have seen the gorgeous colours.

4) This little man hiding behind the bar at the pub when Digby the shnauzer kept growling at him. So cute!
5) A visit to Alice underground last Sunday. So much fun, it's immersive theatre based on Alice in Wonderland. You can get tickets at the website below and it's on until August.

6) This mozzarella and cherry tomato salad I made myself for dinner one night with filled jackets. Mmmmm...

7) My new car. I feel like to luckiest girl in the world to have a car like this, but now I'm poor!

8) This duck in the disgusting flooded alleyway behind my work. Someone has a sense of humour and made him some shark friends. Don't know where he's gone now though! :(

So I made up for my grumpy post with some happy nice things!

The bad day

Sometimes you have those weeks where everything goes wrong and you just want to crawl back into bed and never come out again. Cue some moaning about my first world problems. Hopefully they only come in three’s as my mum always says, because I had three things that really riled me.

Sometimes these problems are your own fault. In all three instances, I have explained how you can avoid being as stupid as me and having such a bad week.

1) I tried to sell the cursed yellow Ali G car on Saturday, well part exchange it for a new one. When the garage where I took it checked the history, it had some sort of outstanding finance on it from 2004 which someone hadn’t paid off. I have only had the car for one year, so it’s not my fault. Anyway, this was after I had finished paying for my new car and I was rushing to get my little brother to his sports class, so I ended up having to deal with a lot of hassle, pay and extra few hundred pounds, now clearing up finance overhanging on a car that doesn’t have finance on it from a company that doesn’t exist any more is proving to be a nightmare. UGH

LESSON: Don’t let your mum and brother replace your car when you are miles away in New Zealand. You end up with something that looks like Ali G's car, falls apart and is a hassle to get rid of.

2) As I was leaving said garage from buying my new car which should be a joyful experience, I got a text from my bank. This text informed me that someone was trying to spend £2000 on my credit card online at some sort of wholefoods company. Cue 30 mins on hold to Lloyds resolving that one.

LESSON: I can only think this came from paywave. I use my card on the underground and hang it round my neck with my work pass. I am stopping this now. It’s stupid and I have gone back to an old fashioned oyster card. Be careful with your cards people.

3) Yesterday morning my car got clamped. It was my own fault, because when I left the UK 3 years ago there was a grace period for taxing your car. It turns out that’s not the case any more, and I hadn’t got round to it yet because I thought there was time. At 3am this morning, the DVLA crept up to my house and right outside my bedroom window, clamped the wheel, making me late for work and costing me £100.00 to release it. 3AM!!!! WHAT KIND OF FUCKING STALKER CLAMPERS COME OUT AT 3AM TO A RESIDENTIAL STREET ON A TUESDAY NIGHT? OH YEAH, THE DVLA CREEPY FUCKING STALKERS!

LESSON: pay for your car tax online while you are standing on the forecourt buying your car. If you don’t have a smartphone to do this then you’d better get on the case, because I also learnt this morning that if you can’t do it online then the post office take 5 days to go through and then they can still clamp you and then you have to apply for a refund afterwards. They are total thieving bastards.

So please world. Send out your good vibes to me. I don’t really use this blog as a complaining spot, and I understand that ALL of these problems are first world issues, not big problems in the grand scheme of things, but they have all made my week infinitely more difficult whilst trying to work in a full time job. It’s my blog and I wanted to get it off my chest and it will be a good reminder to me when I read back in future, that this was trivial, things could be worse and I was just whining bitch.

And hopefully also show the world that people who blog their lives, usually only talk about the good shit. Not the mundane, trivial every day crap that drives us mad. So here. Have some problems, a problem shared is a problem halved right? Feel free to vent about anything in your life which has been similar this week and I will offer you my fullest sympathy and online cuddles

I will use the end of this post to tell you all that my gorgeous friend Amy Shand wrote and illustrated a book called “The Bad Day” which I love very much. And as I wrote this post, I thought of her because she texted me hugs this morning. And I thought of her little illustrations of Clarence looking sad on his bad day.

You can buy a copies online through her website I believe. It’s a lovely birthday gift for certain grown-ups and a great bedtime reading book.

You can preview it online on youtube here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJ4VCuMwlS8

And Amy has copies to sell so you contact her here http://amy.shand.net/

Bucket list and happy birthday blog

I'm a daydreamer. Always have been. I’d say it’s because I’m a pisces, but I’m not so sure I really believe in starsigns anyway.

I’ve been going through quite a few changes in the last 6 months since I moved home to London. I’ve not been totally happy in my new job, which led to me handing in my notice last week. I’d love to be finished sooner, but we agreed I’d finish work in July. I want to take a break and try and improve on things in my personal lifeIt would be nice to have some time over the summer to enjoy my family, friends and things the world has to offer. I never went travelling before or after University, I’m feeling the bug now and I spend a lot of time dreaming about travel and anything but the job at hand.

I’ve decided that it’s all very well having a great career, but I’m not really enjoying the rest of my life too much because I’m never home. I mean I moved all the way to New Zealand for my job for two and a half years, which is possibly where the restlessness started unintentionally. I don’t want to work for a big corporation any more, that’s for sure, I want to work for nice people in smaller companies, with feelings, emotions and passions.

And seriously, there aren’t enough days in the week for me to finish everything I want to do around my job, DIY, going to the gym, helping mum round the house, travel, walking the dog, art, writing blogs, taking photos, singing, something has to give, why not work?! Haha!

I’m writing this on my lunch break at work, because I haven’t even had time to write my second Jamaica blog post, I’m out every night, tonight helping a friend with their business ideas, and security in my company is so tight on the internet, I can’t really do a photo related blog post, only a writing one, unless I drag my poor sad macbook into work (which lost my whole NZ video edit and may need to be chucked out of the window soon anyway!

Anyway, the point is, over the last few years, I’ve had a wonderful time documenting my life on here. I wish I had started it many years before I actually did. I’ve done some pretty cool things that I always wanted to do, things I didn’t know I wanted to do until I did them. And some were so awesome they blew my socks off and I retrospectively put them on the bucket list

I’m currently compiling lists of things I want to do, am scheduling for the next few months and making plans for the future, and I figured a bucket list is a great way to get some of the dreams down that may not be immediate. I can prioritise some things over the next few years, like Florida and Disney, number 2 on the list, as we might not want to be doing those things in our forties! Wait till I tell my bro I want to drag him theme parking in Florida! Not sure how he’ll feel about that one!

haven’t put anything on this list that I’ve already done, like gloworms, getting a degree and walking down red carpets, no point in looking back, I want to look forward, especially after the nightmare I had about certain bullies last night which seemed to occur at a poignant time. This bucket list is full of brand spanking new things which I want to do, so if I succeed in any, I’ll try to come back and put a put a little note by it and link to any corresponding blog post I write upbecause I now intend to do this blog forever and ever and ever

Oooh I love a list! As all my family and friends will tell you. So on with my bucket list.

Let me know in the comments if you have any that are the same and we can try and do them together!

And finally, happy 3rd birthday blog. I promise to update you more soon.
